This is one of those blogs where I can conclude with a single word. But, we need an establishment of deeper concepts before jumping into conclusions. (By the way, the word is “diversity”).
Starting with an Example
What determines the health of a biosphere?
We are back at the word – diversity.
A biosphere is the domain of biocentric evolution. It is where organisms come to life and develop into complex, successful forms. And, a biosphere with a diverse set of organisms is a healthy, successful one.
Other biocentric phenomena are no different.
The Business Perspective
From a business perspective, the space where ideas develop, i.e. the ideosphere, is no different. The health of an ideosphere is determined by the diversity in the ideas.
Then, through a combination of the resources available inside the ideosphere, the ingredients for successful businesses are born.
It is important to establish here that businesses never proliferate overall through a single idea. A business may be born through a single idea, but what makes a business successful is when ideas are allowed to get together and combine in useful proportions.
This proliferation of business can be put in a more abstract manner too.
The Comparative View
Is your business idea really good or is it good as compared to your competition?
In most cases, success is not determined by in built quality, but through a comparative system. I do not subscribe to this mentality but many people do.
In order to be successful, you just need to do things better than others. This better than others mentality is determined by your current and target clients. So, you still need to work on your ideas.
Your idea and execution needs to be better than others. And, we need diversity of ideas to measure this betterness of your ideas.
The bottomline is, there are always multiple ideas in play at the same time when success is measured. There is always a diversity in ideas. And, you need to place yourself in the middle of this diversity to feed from and develop your business.
